In the name of God, the most merciful, we welcome you to our Masjid. Masjids' have great importance in Muslim society. They serve as a place of worship for the community of believers(ummah) five times a day. But their importance goes beyond this; they offer social, political, educational and public space for believers.

From the outset, Masjids' have been recognized as distinctive symbols of Islam and as focal points in the lives of muslim communities.

Islam’s primary message, as understood by the overwhelming majority of Muslims, is the continuation of the monotheistic, Abrahamic tradition’s belief in one God. The three major dimensions of Islam include beliefs, ritual practices, and the goal and effort to improve one’s character and actions.

In conveying the message of Islam to a non-Muslim, it is usually not sufficient to highlight only the positive nature of Islam. Most non-Muslims are not convinced about the truth of Islam because there are a few questions about Islam at the back of their minds that remain unanswered.

• Who is Jesus to us?

  Jesus peace be upon Him is a true prophet. Sent by Allah like Moses, Abraham, Lot, Noah, Jonah, Joseph …etc.

  • Jesus is the son of Virgin Mary, and he had no father. Allah created Jesus.
• Is Allah the same as what Christians call the father?

  Allah is the creator who Jesus worshipped. He is the Creator who spoke to Moses, and split the sea for Moses, and his followers. That is Allah. But Allah tells us: "Say Allah is one, He is Perfect, He has never begotten, nor was He begot, and there is no one equal to Him".

• Can anyone become a Muslim?

  Yes anyone can. There are two declarations, which are necessary:

  • To bear witness that no one deserves to be worship except Allah
  • To bear witness that Prophet Mohammed is the Messenger of Allah.

  
  

  This makes a person Muslim. But it should be said in Arabic. Next a person takes a shower, and He/She is a Muslim. Then What?

  After a person becomes Muslim he/she is taught about Prayers, Fasting, the Poor due, Pilgrimage. These are pillars of Islam.

  Muslims are brothers. A Muslim should love for his brother what he loves for himself. Allah's wealth does not run out, and Allah can provide for us all. We pray for each other, and love each other, and love for our brothers and sisters what we love for ourselves.

  Oneness of God(Tawhid)

  The Oneness and Unity of God is the most important belief in Islam. It is the first part of the declaration of faith (Shahada), which people must recite to become Muslim. The Oneness and Unity of Allah means that, there is no God but Allah, there is nothing like Allah, and that Allah is not made up of parts.

  Making pilgrimage to Mecca

  The annual pilgrimage (Hajj) to Makkah is an obligation once in a lifetime for those who are physically and financially able to perform it. About two million people go to Makkah each year from every corner of the globe. Although Makkah is always filled with visitors, the annual Hajj is performed in the twelfth month of the Islamic calendar.

  Male pilgrims wear special simple clothes which strip away distinctions of class and culture so that all stand equal before God.

  Every year in the month of Ramadan, all Muslims fast from dawn until sundown, abstaining from food, drink, and sexual relations.

  Although the fast is beneficial to health, it is regarded principally as a method of spiritual self-purification. By cutting oneself off from worldly comforts, even for a short time, a fasting person gains true sympathy with those who go hungry, as well as growth in his or her spiritual life.

• Prayer

  Muslims perform five prayers a day

  Muslims perform five prayers a day. Each prayer does not take more than a few minutes to perform. Prayer in Islam is a direct link between the worshipper and God. There are no intermediaries between God and the worshipper.

  Prayers are performed at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset, and night. A Muslim may pray almost anywhere, such as in fields, offices, factories, or universities.
